Baa Atoll or South Maalhosmadulu Atoll is one of the best spots to dive with whale sharks in the months May to July.

Baa or South Maalhosmadulu Atoll is an almost circular atoll, 30km wide, located just northwest of North Male Atoll on the eastern chain of Maldivian Atolls. There are more than 50 pristine islands of which five are transformed into resort islands and ten are locally inhabited. Some of the better known islands are Hithaadhoo, Eydhafushi and Dharavandhoo. To the south you can find Goidhoo Atoll or Horsburgh Atoll, a small atoll separated by a wide channel but administered by Baa.

Baa Atoll has only recently been opened for tourism but divers around the world acknowledge its potential as becoming one of the best dive areas in the world. Besides its already flourishing fish life, particularly interesting are the huge numbers of whale sharks and mantas that feed here in the months May to July.
